Company: Thermeleon

About the job

Do you want to use your engineering knowledge to make greenhouse horticulture more sustainable at an ambitious hardware startup ? With your help, in-depth research is being conducted into all facets of the thermal battery: the performance, the material, and the material properties of the current and the future variant.

Our product – the Thermeleon Thermal Battery – is an innovative 24-hour buffer for greenhouses. It improves the energy efficiency of greenhouses by strategically reusing excess heat during the day-night cycle. This substantially reduces natural gas consumption and ensures greater climate uniformity throughout the greenhouse. In this role, you will largely independently set up and execute experiments and analyses – together with the rest of the R&D department. This includes tests into the performance, materials, and chemical properties of various product variants. You will analyze the results and provide feedback to the Product Design Engineer, among others. You also have the freedom to contribute to the (future) product design. You will work closely with your colleagues with diverse backgrounds (Business, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering) at every step of the process. The position also offers the opportunity to contribute strategically to the product development strategy at a higher level.

Requirements

  • You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience, and preferably longer.
  • You have experience leading and motivating teams, and working in a structured and planned manner.
  • You are a team player and a clear communicator.
  • You have experience managing contact with technical parties.
  • You have knowledge of and interest in the fields of transport phenomena, materials science, thermodynamics, and sensor measurement setups.
  • You have an academic background in: Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
  • Motivation to perform and analyze physical measurements
  • Kennis van data-analyse d.m.v. Python, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Excel
  • Passion for hardware and innovation

The candidate

  • You set up experiments into the performance, material, and chemical properties of various product variants.
  • You devise and coordinate measurement plans and analyses of the measurement setup in the greenhouse.
  • You manage the R&D team
  • You maintain contact with our technical partners and discuss the measurement results with the customer (grower).
  • You contribute to the visualization of product performance.
  • You help with the physical creation of prototypes and the installation of sensor setups.
  • To steer the direction of the design and improve performance with the above conclusions

What we offer

  • You have the opportunity to advance quickly in a growing start-up.
  • You get the chance to combine your passion for R&D with product design and business.
  • You can contribute to innovative research into a new product, and you have the advantage of a solid foundation already laid by the R&D department.
  • You can further develop your skills in: data analysis, physical experiments, various types of sensors, and the interplay between these factors.
  • You will visit high-tech greenhouses and conduct experiments on location!
  • An inside look at a startup: associated financing, subsidies, etc.
  • Gaining in-depth sector knowledge (greenhouse horticulture & sustainable innovations)
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration: with the client, partners, and your tech colleagues
