About

Dr. Ruud Out is an experienced R&D professional and has spent the majority of his career at startups, where he enjoyed building, growing, and leading R&D teams while using cutting-edge technologies and taking care of innovation and IP strategy.

Ruud has worked for 6 years at the cultivated meat company Meatable (first employee) and as VP R&D has been responsible for all R&D activities. He led several cross-functional teams to innovate, develop and scale cell lines, culture media, and bioreactor processes, resulting in novel intellectual property and cultivated meat products. Additionally, he was responsible for setting up labs, hiring and managing a team of 60 R&D employees. He helped in securing both dilutive and non-dilutive funding, and managed external collaborations, including tech transfers and joint development agreements. Prior to Meatable Ruud has worked at multiple startups in senior roles performing application research. Ruud has a PhD in Cardiovascular Research and Lipid Metabolism from Leiden University.

Ruud is passionate about helping companies in the R&D phase unlock their full innovation potential and currently has his own consultancy company R&DOut, where he offers R&D expertise as a service and gives advise for innovation and growth to life science companies.

Interest

My interest is in coaching startups that use innovative biotechnological methods for making materials  especially cellular agricultural, microbial and plant based companies. My experience is up to pilot scale. I love helping young entrepreneurs grow their companies and themselves.
